Person working with a horse on the ground using natural horsemanship in a Colorado ranch setting

Relationship-based horse training

Training rooted in connection, not control.

The Coming Home approach

Drawing on brain science, nervous system understanding, learning theory, and decades as an educator, I meet each horse (and their person) exactly where they are. No shortcuts. No force. Simply individualized, consistent relationship-building that creates horses who want to be with you.

Connection is a thousand times more powerful than control.

How we work

Every horse has a story. We start by listening to it.

Relationship first

Before we ask anything of a horse, we create safety, connection, and two way communication. That means time, presence, and genuine curiosity about who this horse is.

Work with the horse's nature

Horses are prey animals with deeply ingrained instincts. Understanding their brain science and nervous system is the key to everything.

Slow is fast

Authentic learning does not happen on our human timeline. We honor the horse's pace and believe that it takes the time that it takes. We don't rush. We build. And this pays off in the long run.

Owner education is essential

A horse can only be as consistent as the human handling them. We work with owners as much as horses — because lasting change happens at home.

Common questions

What to know before we begin.

What kinds of horses do you work with?

All kinds — young horses, rescue horses, mustangs, horses with behavioral issues, and horses who simply need a tune-up. Each horse is assessed individually before we begin.

Do you offer training at my location?

In some cases, yes. Travel training is available within a reasonable distance of our Fruita, CO location. Contact us to discuss your situation.

How long does training take?

It depends entirely on the horse and the goals. Some horses make dramatic progress in a few sessions; others need months of consistent work. We'll give you an honest assessment after the initial evaluation.

Will you work with my horse while I watch?

Yes — and we encourage it. Owner observation and education is built into every program. You learning alongside your horse is part of the process.

Do you use any specific training method?

We draw from the work of experts like Dr. Stephen Peters, Mark Rashid, Warwick Schiller, and Dr. Susan Fay.  But we're not dogmatic about any single method. We use what works for each individual horse.

Let's talk about your horse

Every training journey starts with a conversation.

Tell us about your horse — their history, their challenges, what you're hoping to build together. We'll let you know honestly whether and how we can help.
